The Be Active Western Stars travel to Dandenong this weekend in search of their maiden Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball League (WNWBL) Championship.

The Stars finished this year’s regular season equal second spot on the WNWBL ladder.

Before flying out to Victoria for the finals series, coach John Trsicari said he was optimistic that 2012 could be the Stars’ turn to shine.

“We have the two best guards in the country in Clare Nott (WAIS) and Sarah Vinci (WAIS) and have the most dominant forward the women’s game here in Australia has seen in a long time in Amber Merritt (WAIS)” said Triscari.

All three players are expected to be selected in the Australian team for the Paralympics in London.

“If we can execute what we have practiced all year, I have no doubt we will be there at the business end of the weekend”.

In the five years since the Stars entered the competition, they have been runners-up three times.

The Stars will take on the Sydney Uni Flames on Friday night. They must win to advance to Saturday’s preliminary final.
