Sting Win ANL Bronze

The Western Sting recorded a comfortable 59-38 win over QLD Fusion to win bronze for the fourth time in five seasons in the Australian Netball League.

After the Fusion got away to a quick start, WA clicked into gear to lead by six goals at quarter-time, a margin that they continued to stretch over the remainder of the match.

WAIS athlete Kaylia Stanton was a dominant figure in the goal circle for Sting, finishing the match with 53 goals at 93 per cent accuracy.

Along the way Stanton also eclipsed her own record for the most goals in the season by a Western Australian player. The 21-year-old ended their campaign with 340 goals at 85 per cent accuracy and an average of 37.8 goals per game.

Stanton’s form earned her runner up in the 2015 ANL MVP award.

Sting coach Michelle Wilkins (WAIS head netball coach) said after a disappointing semi-final performance against Force (South Australia), her side was determined to finish the season on a positive note.

“The thought process going into today was to try and replicate what we have been focusing on so much all season – which is starting and finishing strongly,” Wilkins said.

“I thought we had a lapse in the third quarter where Queensland got a little bit of a run-on, but I think our overall effort was very much close to what we have been working on.”
