Storer Takes Solo Win

Published On: 25 May 2017

Michael Storer has out climbed the field to claim an impressive solo victory on stage four of the An Post Ras in Ireland.

Storer is riding with the Australian U23 National Road Team in a setup that also features Western Australian riders Cam Meyer and Sam Welsford.

In the first stage to venture into higher grounds, Storer and the Australian team capitalised, claiming a comprehensive victory that has reinstated hopes of fighting for overall honours.

“It’s great to be able to win a stage of the Ras, I came here to try and do well so I’m really happy to pull it off today,” Storer said after claiming his second individual win of 2017.

“Leading in to the last climbs, Sam (Welsford) and Sam (Jenner) gave an awesome lead-out then Cam put everyone under pressure on the climb, which gave me a perfect launch pad to get away.”

With a number of hard stages ahead, Storer is still confident of challenging for the overall classification having moved to 11th overall, just one minute and 15 seconds from yellow.

“I’m feeling confident ahead of the next four stages and I think as a team we should be looking forward to the opportunities coming up. GC is definitely not out of the picture for myself or Cam but the time gap is still large.”
