WAIS swimmer Brianna Throssell will represent Australia at the Short Course World Championships in Turkey this December.

The City of Perth club member was selected alongside fellow West Australians Tommaso D’Orsogna and Sally Foster, with the high school student set to swim in the butterfly leg of the medley relay for Australia after winning the 100m event at the recent championships in Perth.

As a medallist at junior world championship level, the short course world titles in Turkey will represent Throssell’s first appearance for Australia at senior level.

The 16 year-old enjoyed a strong national short course campaign in front of a home crowd in Perth, taking gold in the 100m butterfly, with silver in the 200m discipline.

London Olympic silver medallist Blair Evans, won the 200m individual medley in her first competitive hit-out since the Games. Evans completed a full set of medals at the Perth championships, by adding silver in the 400m freestyle and bronze in the 200m free.

Emerging WAIS talent, Ben Lindsay produced a good swim to claim silver in the 50m fly final, whilst there were also finals appearances for WAIS athletes Tommy Sucipto (sixth in 100m IM) and Lennard Bremmer (fourth in 200m breast, eighth in 100m breast).

WAIS Swimming Performance Manager Greg Hodge noted that the competing WAIS athletes produced faster times throughout competition.

“For me the best feature of our athletes performances was their ability to post improved times from heats, through semis into finals,” he said.

The Short Course World Championships will be held in Istanbul, Turkey from December 12-16.
