Josie Tomic continues to shine on the road in The Netherlands

WAIS cyclists Josie Tomic and Sarah Kent have continued their busy schedule of racing in The Netherlands with another four races in the past 10 days.

Tomic has continued to be the best performer in the Australian squad, posting two podium finishes out of the four races despite at one stage having a suspected broken elbow.

Luckily for the world champion the injury scare proved unfounded but unfortunately the same couldn’t be said for her teammate Kent who is struggling with a back complaint and only made the finish line in one of the races.

Tomic’s best performance of the tour so far came after her elbow scare and illustrated her class as a rider. In the toughest field the squad had faced, including European champion Chantel Blaak, she dominated from early in the 60km race held in Alblasswedam late last week.

The 20-year made an aggressive solo break, riding over 30kms out in front and recording a 45 second win.

The squad’s coach Gary Sutton was delighted by her performance.

“This was one of Josie’s best performance as she rode aggressively right from the start,” he said.

“When she lead by 20 seconds her team mates then dominated the front of the bunch and to my surprise the big teams were content to leave Jose out there…she was away for over 30km solo, a well deserved win.”

Earlier in the tour Tomic claimed a second position in another 60km race, this time in Bovenkarspel a day after crashing out in Schaijk. In the same race Kent posted her best result of the week, with a 21st placing.
