WAIS athletes Kelsey Robson and Elissa Wundersitz both claimed individual titles on the track yesterday at the2013 Subaru Cycling Australia Track National Championships held atSydney’s Dunc Gray Velodrome.

In fine display, Robson upstaged her Tasmanian rival Macey Stewart in the final to defend her title in the under 19 women’s 2000m individual pursuit.

The reigning world champion was relentless over the 12 laps, gradually increasing her lead to finish with a time of 2:26.288.

“I was really nervous heading into the final because my plan was to qualify first,” said Robson. “And once your plan goes out the window, you get the head wobbles a little bit, so I had to go into the final with a lot of self confidence and believing in the training that I’d done.

“I felt a heap of pressure, and I had a big question on myself after having so much success last year about being able to back it up.

“I questioned that after the qualifying but after that performance I am really happy,” Robson added.

Wundersitz claimed a memorable victory in the women’s under 19 7.5km scratch race.

The pace of the race was shared withTasmania’s Macey Stewart and Lauren Perry and Josie Talbot (NSW), but with a stunningattack in the last two laps, Wundersitz rode away the victor by the length of the straight.

In other races, Allee Proud and Tian Beckett placed fourth in the Team Sprint final and new comer to the cycling scene, Sam Welsford came fourth in the Under 19 men’s pursuit.
