WA Dominant on Day Five at SIRR

Published On: 29 March 2019

Western Australia has enjoyed an outstanding day at the Sydney International Rowing Regatta with a series of medal winning performances.

An all WA crew in the women’s coxless four final claimed line honours over a composite boat of TAMAR and National Training Centre athletes.

Bronwyn Cox, Annabelle McIntyre (NTC), Lilly Tinapple (NTC) and Hannah Vermmersch fought hard to secure a narrow win over the combined crew of Jacinta Edmunds, Rosie Popa, Georgina Gotch and Ciona Wilson.

Just one and half seconds separated the two boats at the finish. The gold medal represented a second podium success in as many days for McIntyre who is quickly firming as one Australia’s pre-eminent sweep talents.

In the U23 women’s pair, Giorgia Patten continued her strong regatta taking a gold medal win in tandem with New South Wales’ Harriet Hudson. The pair were well clear of Queenslanders Ria Thompson and Lily Alton in second.

And in the U19 ranks Hamish Henriques provided further evidence of his class over the age group, pairing with MUBC oarsman Harry Fox for a clinical victory in the men’s double scull.

Henriques switched to sweep for a victory in the men’s eight, where he was rowing in a composite boat of WA and Victorian rowers.

Further results and details can be sourced via the SIRR website.
