WA Paddlers Earn Rep Call-ups

Western Australia will be represented at all age levels in the 2017 international season after Australian Canoeing announced its representative teams at the conclusion of the National Championships.

Fresh from a dual national championship winning campaign in Penrith, Jaime Roberts has earned selection in the Australian senior team, which is set to compete at World Cups 1 and 2 in Portugal and Hungary respectively.

Roberts will form part of the women’s K4 500m squad alongside Alyssa Bull, Alyce Burnett and Cat McArthur.

London Olympian Jo Brigden-Jones returns to international duty in the K1 events, whilst a nine-strong squad will represent Australia’s senior men – headlined by Murray Stewart and Ken Wallace.

The senior team will contest for selection at this year’s major – the 2017 ICF World Sprint Canoe Championships – which will be held in Racice, Czech Republic across August 23-27.

After giving a strong account of herself at the national championships, 22 year-old Shannon Reynolds has gained selection for Australia’s U23 squad and will eye a berth in the representative squad at this year’s world championships in Romania.

The U23 Championships are combined with the Junior world titles, where Reynolds will be joined by fellow emerging WA paddlers Luke Morton and Monique Carbone.

Those championships will be held in the city of Pitesti from July 27-30.
