WA Rowers Selected for Representative Honours

Western Australian rowers Giorgia Patten and Bronwyn Cox will compete for Australia at the U23 World Championships in Poland in July.

The duo will contest the women’s pair and will be coached by WAIS lead Rhett Ayliffe as part of 12-strong Australian athlete contingent.

UWA Boat Club member Cox (21) will defend a silver medal won in the same event at the 2017 titles, where she competed with fellow West Aussie Annabelle McIntyre. The pair earned the WAIS Junior Athlete of the Year title following their medal success.

Patten at 19 years of age, will make her debut at U23 World Championship level. She is a representative of the West Australian Rowing Club.

Ayliffe – who has coached Olympic gold medal crews over a distinguished career – will also oversee the U23 Lightweight Women’s Double Scull crew of Verayna Zilm (SA) and Georgina Masters (NSW).

Western Australian talent will also compete at this year’s Junior World Rowing Championships in the Czech Republic next August.

WA athletes Ben Gerrard (Swan River Rowing Club) and Hamish Henriques (WARC) will team with Queenslanders Logan Ullrich and Miller Rowe in the Junior Men’s Coxed Four. The crew will be coached by WAIS Rowing Coach Jaime Hewlett.

The continuation of the Trans-Tasman Regatta will also see WA rowers compete in Sydney and at New Zealand’s Lake Karapiro. The Trans-Tasman concept sees U21 talent from both countries contest regattas both home and away.

Swan River Rowing Club member Rohan James is one of three lightweight single scull representatives, whilst Andrew Le (WARC) has earned selection as a coxswain.

Sydney will host the first leg from June 28-30 with NZ following from August 23-25.
