WA Swimmers Selected for Dolphins Teams

Published On: 5 July 2018

Five Western Australian swimmers have earned selection on Australian Dolphins Teams across next month’s Pan Pacs and Para Pan Pacs.

UWA West Coast swimmer Brianna Throssell is the only WA member heading for the Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo after Swimming Australia announced its 33-member squad for the titles being held in the 2020 Olympic city from August 9-14.

WA will also boast four athletes at the Para Pan Pacific Championships being held in Cairns, with 2018 Commonwealth Games medallist Kat Downie (Perth City) headlining the local talent.

She will be joined on the Dolphins squad by fellow Paralympians Guy Harrison-Murray (Westside Church Aquatic) and Jeremy McClure (South Shore), whilst 17 year-old Arena club member Ben Popham will make his senior team debut.

The 2018 Para Pan Pacs will run concurrent to the Pan Pacs in Tokyo.

Throssell had earned selection for the Pan Pacific Championships at April’s Commonwealth Games but reinforced her spot with a series of strong swims at the trials held in Adelaide this week.

Of the WA swimmers who joined her on the Gold Coast, Downie is the only other member to back up.

Downie booked her berth with a second place finish in the final of the women’s 200m IM multi-class on Tuesday night.
