Western Australian swimmers Blair Evans, Tommaso D’Orsogna and Sally Foster have last night been officially selected by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The trio are part of an exciting 44 strong Australian Dolphins team that will compete at the London Aquatic Centre from July 28 – August 4.

WAIS scholarship holder and 2010 Commonwealth Games champion Blair Evans will compete in her first Olympic Games campaign, with the 20 year-old to race alongside triple Olympic champion Stephanie Rice in the 400m Individual Medley.

D’Orsogna – who trains out of the AIS in Canberra but is still a member of the West Coast Swimming Club – will be part of a red hot Australian 4x100m freestyle relay team, which features James Magnussen and is a firm favourite for gold in London.

27 year-old Foster, will be making her second Olympic appearance for the Dolphins, after competing in Beijing in 2008. AIS-based Foster will race the 200m breaststroke.

Swimming Head Coach Leigh Nugent told the AOC he is impressed with the strength of his Team and the positive racing at the meet that doubled as the Olympic Trials.

“We’ve seen some great swimming this week and depth in many events. Our relay strength looks very good like it was in Beijing – if not better, and our sprinters have led the way in terms of world rankings,” Nugent said.

“The racing for individual swims in London has raised the bar here at our Trials and now the job is to do everything possible to best prepare for the Games in July.”

Western Australia now has five officially selected athletes on the Australian Olympic Team for the 2012 London Olympic Games with these athletes coming from the sports of swimming and slalom canoeing.
