WAIS Athletes Compete in Canberra

WAIS sprinter Jody Henry has finished second in both the women’s 100m and 200m events at the Canberra AA meet this week.

Henry was pipped in both events by Beijing Olympic silver medalist Sally McLellan who was making her first competitive return since taking time off post Beijing.

McLellan claimed victory in the blue ribbon 100m event in a time of 11.48sec, just ahead of Henry who posteed 11.79sec. Laura Whaler rounded out the top three in 11.82sec. McLellan’s time of 23.65sec was also too good in the 200m with Henry clocking 24.15sec whilst Melanie Kleeberg claimed third place in 24.41sec.

WAIS athlete Lyndsay Pekin competed in the women’s 400m sprint finishing second in a time of 54.55sec behind ACT’s Angline Blackburn (54.12sec) whilst Pirrenee Fairweather ran home third in 55.06sec.

WAIS athlete Felipe De Castro Cruz won the 400m hurdles over Leigh Bennett in a time of 52.89sec with only two runners competing in the event.
