The Western Australian Institute of Sports netball program has enjoyed a strong start to the 2009 calendar year with all WAIS squad members gaining selection into their respective state underage representative teams.

Ellie Smart (Cunderdin) and Denise Shepley (Gooseberry Hill) both made the state U17’s whilst Alicia Janz (Doubleview), Sarah East (Thornlie), Alice Coakley (Shenton Park), Lindal Rohde (Hillarys) and Tess Cransberg (Karawarra) were all named in the WA U19 squad.

Six WAIS athletes were named in the U21’s with Josie Janz (Doubleview), Ashleigh Neal (Welshpool), Briony Carlyon (Wembley), Sarah Ebbott (Doubleview), Mia Washbourne (City Beach) and Sarah Tatam (Carramar) all included.

WAIS scholarship holder Susan Fuhrmann has attended the first National Camp for the Year in Canberra last weekend. The squad was put through testing and introduction to the new World Netball series rules. The first World Netball Series (modified game) is to take place at the end of the year in the United Kingdom.
