In encouraging signs for the future of Australian Netball, the young Diamonds Squad has posted an impressive win against Scotland, 78-22.

Particularly, WAIS Scholarship holders and newcomers to the Diamond’s squad Caitlin Bassett and Madison Browne performed exceptionally well.

On debut for the Diamonds, Browne took to the court as Wing Attack, maintaining this position for half the game. Demonstrating her determinism and hard working abilities, Norma Plummer was exceptionally pleased with her performance.

“It was an exciting milestone for Maddy and she performed well. She was always an option and she was working hard on the combination with herself and (center) Kim (Green) tonight”.

In only her second test, Bassett shot with a striking 89% accuracy. Being provided with the opportunity to play alongside her fellow WAIS Scholarship holder and mentor, Kate Beveridge, (who is now based in South Australia) was invaluable to Bassett.

With Bassett scoring 32 from 36 and Beveridge scoring 15 from 21, Plummer was pleased to see the squad members making the most of their opportunities.

“I put them all out there today for this run. It’s not too often you get opportunities to play your whole squad, but I took that because I need them all to have a taste before we start hitting England”.

Looking forward, the squad will compete against the number three ranked England in a three-match series. The youthfulness of the Diamonds means this will present a challenge, however captain Natalie von Bertouch will be a welcomed inclusion to the squad.

Hospitalised before the match began with an upset stomach, Bertouch will provide valuable experience to the forthcoming series.
