Last Friday at the Netball WA Jill McIntosh Medal Dinner a number of WAIS athletes were rewarded for their performances over the 2016 season.

WAIS netballers dominated the awards, receiving accolades in all areas of the sport in Western Australia, from the Western Australian Netball League (WANL) to the WA State Teams.

Taking out the highest honour of the night, the Jill McIntosh Medal, was past WAIS athlete, Lindal Rhode.

Following an outstanding Western Australian Netball League season Rhode notched up an impressive 26 votes, earning maximum votes on eight occasions.

Netball WA Chief Executive Officer, Simon Taylor said “Lindal has been a part of the Netball WA pathway for sometime now and it’s fantastic to see her perform at such a consistently high level in our State’s premier competition.

Each year from the WANL competition a “Team of the Year’ is also named.

This year saw current WAIS athletes Sophie Garbin and Jessica Anstiss named in the goal shooter and wing defence positions respectively.

The pair also received state team MVP awards with Anstiss winning the Western Sting MVP and Garbin receiving the 21U State Team MVP award.

In addition to this Olivia Lewis was presented with the 17U State Team MVP award and Courtney Kruta was awarded the 19U State Team MVP following their outstanding performances at Nationals, in Perth, earlier this year.

The netball athletes are now in training in preparation for the 2017 State Team programs and the new National netball League competition.
