WAIS will be represented by four pole vault athletes in Brisbane

WAIS will be represented by six athletes this weekend in the second component of the 2010 Australian Athletics Tour in Brisbane.

The Brisbane Athletics Classic will feature talented WAIS athletes in the 200m and 400m sprints and pole vault competitions, with the competition aimed in preparation for April’s National Championships in Perth.

With an extremely strong field, the 200m is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated events of the night. This field features WAIS scholarship holder and World Championships 4x400m bronze medalist Ben Offereins, his 4x400m teammate Sean Wroe, national 100m record holder Patrick Johnson and Berlin 4x100m relay teammate Matt Davies.

After posting a new personal best with an impressive run of 45.32secs, a Commonwealth Games A-qualifier and meet record over 400m at the Australia Cup last week, Offereins is a strong contender and potential medal candidate this weekend.

West Australia also boasts an impressive four pole valters making the trip east, with National Champion and Beijing Olympian Alana Boyd looking to win on home soil – in her first competition in her native Brisbane since relocating to Perth in 2009. Boyd will compete against her fellow WAIS training partners and emerging talents Amanda Bisk, Vicky Parnov and Liz Parnov.

WAIS athlete and sprint specialist Jody Henry will be looking to back up her B-Qualifier at last week’s meet in Canberra when she runs in the 200m and 400m double.
