There was disappointment for WAIS slalom canoe athletes Robin Bell and Robin Jeffery at the World Cup event in France on the weekend.

Competing at the ICF Slalom Canoe Kayak World Cup 1 in Pau, France both Bell and Jeffery failed to progress to the final in the men’s C1.

Bell – who won bronze in the slalom canoe at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games – recorded four seconds of time penalties on what proved a very difficult French course. Jeffery is still new to international competition and completed his run in 25th position, missing out on the semi-finals.

Bell did reach the semi final stage, but was unable to convert that into a final place for the top ten time qualifiers.

The WA pair will be back in action next weekend at the second World Cup event in the series, which acts as a warm up to the World Championships later this year that both men are selected for.

Australia’s C1 women had much better fortune in France, with Rosalyn Lawrence and Leanne Guinea winning silver and bronze respectively.
