WAIS netball graduates Courtney Bruce, Sunday Aryang, Jess Anstiss and Verity Simmons were part of a the West Coast Fever team that claimed their maiden National League Premiership with a spectacular win in front of a record crowd at RAC Arena in the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final.

Fever won every quarter and led by as much as 14 goals, with every player on the court performing at the highest standard when it mattered most to take down minor premiers Melbourne Vixens in the season decider.

“I still don’t know if I have really processed it yet, I am just absolutely stoked and I can’t wait to celebrate,” said Bruce.

“For me it has been a hard two years on the trot, and I think just to finally get here and be able to do it with such an amazing crowd in our 25th year.”

Despite the Vixens scoring the opening goal, it did not take long for the Fever to assert control, starting with sensational defence from Courtney Bruce, who created a turnover to see Fever hit the front and move ahead by 3 goals before extending the advantage to four at quarter time.

In the second quarter the teams traded goals to start the second term before the Vixens had a run to reduce the margin to 1 goal. However Fever responded and reinstated a 5-goal lead at the midway point of the quarter, before reaching the half time break six ahead.

Fever maintained their 6-goal lead through the first half of the third quarter before strong play and a nearly impenetrable defence saw the Fever go from strength to strength and a nine goal lead at the final break.

With a voal home crowd behind them the Fever controlled the game in the final quarter sealing the win by 11 goals to finish on 70 to the Vixen’s 59.
