Published On: 11 July 2019

Netball WA has announced the 11 athletes who have received Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) scholarships for 2019/20.

West Coast Fever Training Partner Sunday Aryang has been named alongside her younger sister, Ruth.

Western Sting athletes Sloan Burton and Giselle Taylor have also been selected, as have Sting Training Partners Kate Bunten and Jess Repacholi.

Exciting youngsters Chelsea Bartlett, Charlie Allen, Abbey Hicks, Trinity Rond and Brooke Repacholi have also been named.

Sunday Aryang and Bunten are both plying their trade for the Rangers in the Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League (WANL), while the ECU Souwest Jets are well represented through Burton, Taylor and the Repacholi sisters.

Bartlett is playing a key role in the defensive circle for the Curtin Hamerlsey Comets, while Abbey Hicks is bibbing up for the East Freo Sharks and Trinity Rond for the ladder-leading Western Roar.

West Coast Fever General Manager, Morag Croser, congratulated the selected athletes.

“These 11 athletes are all fantastic products of the Netball WA Athlete Pathway, so we look forward to their ongoing development through their WAIS scholarships,” Croser said.

“All of these athletes have put in a significant amount of work to get to this point in their careers, and it’s certainly exciting to see the level of talent on display here in Western Australia.”

West Coast Fever athletes Jess Anstiss, Courtney Bruce, Olivia Lewis and Kaylia Stanton all remain in the WA Connect Grant program, as do fellow West Australian Suncorp Super Netball athletes Caitlin Bassett, Sophie Garbin and Annika Lee-Jones.
