WAIS netball scholarship holders Andrea Gilmore and Caitlin Bassett have been selected into the national 21 and under squad after impressing at an intense training camp in Canberra. Former WAIS scholarship holder Jasmine Keene was also included in the squad.

Gilmore and Bassett’s inclusion into the squad is the first step towards the possibility of selection for next year’s World Youth Cup. The 21 and under team are scheduled for matches in Brisbane in mid August as well as a tour to New Zealand in September.

The WAIS netball team played its final WA Premier League fixture of the season last Sunday, signing off with a comprehensive 60-27 win over Rangers.

After a slow start WAIS got on top of their opponents in the second quarter and built on their play throughout. Alicia Janz applied consistent pressure on the ball and used her athleticism to create numerous turnovers for WAIS. Other strong performers included Ash Neal, Sarah Tatam and Sarah Geddes. Ash Neal excelled, shooting 29 from 33 equating to 88%.

Five WAIS development squad members have been selected to represent the WA ANL team in the up-coming ANL competition in Canberra. WA will line up against an AIS team and the ACT Canberra Darters.

It is an exciting time for the selected athletes and an opportunity to challenge their skills at the next level of competition. The athletes selected were: Ash Neal, Sarah East, Sarah Tatam, Sarah Geddes, Briony Carlyon and Josie Janz.
