WAIS rowing scholarship holder Natasha Gay has been selected by Rowing Australia to represent her country at August’s World Junior Rowing Championships in Eton, England.

The regatta will be Gay’s second representation for Australia at this level, and will see the Swan River Rowing Club member compete in the women’s coxless four.

The Eton course is the same that will be a feature at next year’s London Olympic Games, with the Great British squad considered one of the strongest in world rowing.

Joining Gay in the coxless four crew will be a fellow Western Australia in Lilly Tinapple, along with Queenslander Eleanor Wilson and NSW’s Georgia Gotch.

Gay is one of five athletes making their second appearance at the World Junior Championships with, Wilson as well as Nicholas Wheatley, Aaron Wright and Chloe Hill also headed for the UK.

The regatta, which runs from August 3-6, will also serve as the official test event for the rowing venue that is to be used at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The team will meet for three training camps at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra ahead of the world championships, whilst also continuing their own training programs in the interim.
