WAIS Rowers in Action at Sydney International Rowing Regatta

WAIS rowing athletes have been involved in small boat finals at the 2013 Sydney International Rowing Regatta in Penrith.

Hannah Jansen competing in the U23 women’s lightweight single scull finished second in a time of 7:57.15mins behind Georgina Nesbitt (7:52.39).

In the open women’s lightweight single scull, Mia Simmonds raced fourth despite sitting third over the first 1500m of the course, in a time of 7:55.29. Alice McNamara won the race in 7:37.41.

Perry Ward competing in the men’s open lightweight single scull produced a powerful second 1000m to move from last to third finishing in a time of 7:11.56. Jost Schoemann-Finck took line honours, seven seconds ahead of Ward.

Australian U23 representative rowers David Watts and Matt Cochran competed in the final of the U23 men’s coxless pair, completing the 2000m course in 6:42.09. The pair set a blistering early pace, leading through the first 500m, before being overhauled, with Angus Moore and Alexander Hill claiming victory.

In the open men’s coxless pair final, Tom Gatti rowing with Swan River club member Brendan Murray finished seventh, in 6:40.00 with the race win going to Bryn Coudraye and James McRae.

Matt Cochran has secured a seat in the Australian men’s eight for this weekend’ World Cup event in Sydney, whilst David Watts will race in the men’s single scull.
