WAIS STATEMENT RE: HIGH PERFORMANCE SWIMMING in WA

WAIS wish to advise that further expansion of the High Performance Training Centre (HPTC) network has been paused pending alignment with national high performance strategy, which is currently under review.

The sport will now take control in the development and management of this strategy, whilst WAIS will continue to provide services associated with the athlete daily training environment. Consequently, the position of Swimming Program Manager at WAIS has been made redundant.

WAIS will continue to provide scholarship support to selected athletes and operational support, including employment of coaches for identified high performance training centres as part of their commitment to high performance swimming. Applications for swimmers into the Challenge HPTC will be opened shortly.

WAIS remains strongly supportive of the intent to develop high performance swimming programs in Western Australia, as it is believed such programs can add significant value to the WA high performance pathway.

SWA, SAL and WAIS will hold further discussions on June 12 following which further information will be communicated.
