Man of the moment: Tommaso D'Orsogna

The rapid rise to prominence of WAIS swimmer Tommaso D’Orsogna has continued after the 17 year-old accepted an invitation to train with the Australian Institute of Sport.

D’Orsogna started making waves recently with a string of good results coupled with personal best times which culminated in a fantastic second place finish in the short course 100m freestyle in Sydney recently, finishing behind short course world record holder and dual Olympian Steffen Nystrand of Sweden.

His improvements qualified him for a position with the AIS where he will take up a full residential scholarship at the Canberra based Institute.

The West Coast swimmer is trained by Mel Tantrum who helped nurture D’Orsogna’s raw potential and pathway through the WAIS swimming program. D’Orsogna becomes the third WAIS swimmer to have progressed through the WA institute’s program into the AIS, with the sprint swimmer to join fellow West Australian’s Sally Foster and Merindah Dingjan.

The Western Australian Institute of Sport wishes Tommaso D’Orsogna every success during his time in Canberra with the AIS and thanks him for his hard work and endeavour in his time in the WAIS swimming program.
