WAIS Swimmers Evans and Porter Claim Medals

WAIS swimmers Blair Evans and Katrina Porter have both captured medals recently with the summer season gearing up.

Evans made waves recently winning two gold medals at the Singapore leg of the FINA ARENA world cup series.

Competing at the AIS Speedo International in Canberra – Evans picked up a silver in the 200m freestyle and a bronze in the 200m butterfly. Evans has recently picked up sprint events, after the 18 year-old made her breakthrough earlier in 2009 winning the national title in the 800m freestyle.

Evans (1:59.72) was pipped for gold in the 200m freestyle by fellow West Australian Merindah Dingjan in a time of 1:59.32.

The City of Perth swimmer then competed in the 200m butterfly where she claimed third behind dual Olympian Jessica Schipper and Great Britain’s Ellen Gandy.

Paralympic Champion and world record holder Katrina Porter also won a medal competing in the 2009 IPC Swimming Short Course World Championships in Brazil. Porter won bronze in the 100m backstroke (S7).
