WAIS swimmers return to racing at Hancock Prospecting Australian Virtual Short Course meet

11 Western Australian Institute of Sport swimmers will return to competition on Friday 27 and Sunday 29 at the Hancock Prospecting Australian Virtual Short Course meet at HBF Stadium.

Held as a replacement competition for the Short Course National Championships that had been scheduled for Melbourne, the virtual competition sees the top swimmers from Australia compete in their home states with the times then ranked to determine the standings.

Swum as four session of timed finals the virtual competition will take place in Brisbane (Chandler), Sydney (Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre), Hobart (Hobart Aquatic Centre), Perth (HBF Stadium) and Melbourne (MSAC).

Dual World Champion Brianna Throssell, Commonwealth Games medallist Zac Incerti have busy programs and Ashton Brinkworth have busy programs, with all three lining up in five events over the two days. Throssell will compete in the 50, 100 and 200m butterfly and 50 and 200m freestyle. With Incerti racing the 50,100 and 200 freestyle and 50 and 100m backstroke. While Brinkworth tackles the 50, 100 and 200m freestyle and adds in the 50 and 100m butterfly.

London Olympic silver medallist Blair Evans who is chasing selection for a third Olympic Games will line up in the 400m and 200m individual medley.

Short course specialist Holly Barratt tackles the 50 and 100m freestyle and the 100m butterfly and backstroke. Nic Brown eyes success in the 50, 100 and 200m butterfly and Kieran Pollard hopes for medley success in the 200m and 400m individual medley.

Breaststroker Alex Milligan will target the 50, 100 and 200m distances, while also adding in the 100m individual medley and Jackson Govers will content the 100 metre freestyle and butterfly.

In the multi class categories three-time world championship medallist Ben Popham will compete in the 50 and 100m freestyle and Tegan Reder the 50 and 200m freestyle and 50 and 100m breaststroke.
