Swimming Australia has selected squads for both the Junior Pan Pacs and Oceania Swimming Championship teams with WAIS scholarship athletes included in both camps.

The 30-strong squad named for the Junior Pan Pacs team set to compete in Hawaii next August, includes UWA West Coast club member Alex Milligan – who impressed at the recent Australian Swimming Championships in Adelaide.

UWA West Coast will also field representatives at the Oceania Championships in Fiji in June, with Zac Incerti and Hadley Lindsay selected for the 20-strong Australian team.

The Championships which are set to be held in Suva from June 21-26 will be led by multiple Olympic gold medal winning coach Tracey Menzies, whilst Olympic legend Petria Thomas will form part the Australia camp’s support staff, as team manager.

Australia’s Pan Pacs squad will see some of the nation’s very best young talent gaining international experience against countries such as the USA, Japan, Canada and New Zealand from August 24-27.

The team’s head coach Glenn Beringen believes the squad selected will provide a window to potential senior representatives for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018 and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

“They will certainly be on the radar as we get closer to 2018 and 2020.

“And in saying that the contribution of the Australian Commonwealth Games Association makes this team possible and on behalf of the team and Swimming Australia we acknowledge their support.

“The Junior Pacs has been a breeding ground for future Olympians and I can see the tradition continuing from this year’s group.”
