Watts Set for World Cup Test

Western Australia rower David Watts will contest World Cup 3 in Poznan this weekend in the final international regatta for the Australian rowing team ahead of the Rio Olympic Games.

Watts will combine with New South Welshman Chris Morgan in the men’s double scull, with the duo looking to improve upon their performance in Lucerne where they missed the A Final after finishing third in their repechage.

With Watts and Morgan expected to earn Olympic selection for Australia in the double scull, Poznan provides a perfect dress rehearsal.

The reigning Olympic and World Champion crew from Serbia are set to compete in Poland, with the Sinkovic brothers undefeated across 2016 competition.

Martin and Valent Sinkovic came under serious pressure from the New Zealand combination of Christopher Harris and Robert Manson at World Cup 2 and it’s expected that Poznan will again see the two crews featuring prominently.

Watts’ fellow Western Australian teammate Rhys Grant has withdrawn from competition in Poznan due to illness, however the 29 year-old remains in good form and spirits having recently qualified Australia’s berth for Rio in the men’s single scull, which he is expected to fill.

World Cup 3 in Poznan runs from June 17-19, with Australia fielding crews in nine events.
