Wearn, Jerwood, de Vries and Littlewood nominated for 2019 Australian Sailing Awards

Four West Australian sailors have been nominated across three categories for the 2019 Australian Sailing Awards.

In the Male Sailor of the Year category last year’s winner Matthew Wearn who was named to the Australian Olympic Team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is again nominated following a strong year that saw him claim silver at the Laser World Championships.

Nia Jerwood and Monique de Vries who claimed silver at the Enoshima World Cup in August have are nominated in the Female Sailor of the Year category having made big improvements over the last 12 months.

Silver medallist in the Laser Radial from the 2019 Youth Sailing World Championships Zac Littlewood is one of three nominees for Youth Sailor of the Year.

WAIS contract coach Ben Walkemeyer has been nominated for Coach of the Year. WA’s Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club in contention for Club of the Year and the SheSails Award, while their Yachting Operations Manager, Debbie Blaauw is nominated for the Sports Professional Award.
