Wearn Picks up Top Prize

2018 World Championship silver medallist Matt Wearn has taken the prestigious honour of receiving the Male Sailor of the Year Award at the recent Australian Sailing Awards.

Wearn collected the title ahead of a stellar cast of Australian Sailing Team members that included athletes with resumes glittering with Olympic and World Championship medals.

But on the credentials of his 2018 campaign there can be no argument with Wearn not only taking silver at this year’s World Championships but also registering victory at the European Laser Championships, taking second place at the Olympic Test Event in Enoshima and recording another win at the Palma regatta in April.

There was also recognition for Laser Radial World Champion Zac Littlewood who scooped the Youth Sailor of the Year Award.

Despite being just 17 years of age, Littlewood bested athletes many years his senior to win the open Laser Radial world title.

The Fremantle Sailing Club member also collected a bronze medal from the Youth World Championships to round out a thoroughly successful year.
