Western Stars Earn Bronze

The Be Active Western Stars have claimed bronze in the 2017 Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball League after securing a thrilling one-point victory over the Queensland Comets in the finals.

Paralympians Amber Merritt and Sarah Vinci were both instrumental in the Stars’ success, with both earning All-Star representation and MVP awards for their respective classifications.

Merritt additionally, was awarded the league top scorer gong following another impressive year that saw her average close to 30 points a game.

Having missed the opportunity to play for the championship title after being eliminated by the Sydney Uni Flames in the semi-finals, the Stars responded strongly, to snatch a 66-65 win over Queensland in the third-place play-off.

Meanwhile, the men’s National Wheelchair Basketball League is reaching the business end of their season, with only one more round remaining before finals.

Shaun Norris (19pts) and Kim Robins (27pts) were both influential in the Perth Wheelcats’ last start win over the Adelaide Thunder which sees the club outside of finals only on head to head record with the fourth place Queensland Spinning Bullets.

The Red Dust Heelers occupy sixth position and remain an outside chance of contesting this year’s finals.
