Wheelcats Start Title Defence in Style

The Perth Wheelcats have started their title defence in convincing fashion, after defeating last year’s beaten finalists the Wollongong Roller Hawks 100-81.

WAIS athlete Justin Eveson led the Perth charge for the match with a dominant display that included 35 points and 15 rebounds, whilst fellow WAIS scholarship holder Shaun Norris contributed 17 points to go with his 16 assists as the Wheelcats started season 2011 in style.

Australian Rollers representative Tristan Knowles produced a heroic performance for the conquered Roller Hawks, with 44 points but it wasn’t enough as the Wheelcats turned the screws from the midway point of the third term to finish comfortable 19 point winners at the Herb Graham Recreation Centre.

Other WAIS athletes to hit the scoring charts for the Wheelcats were Kim Robins (12), Adam Deans (12), Michael Hartnett (four) and Clare Burzynski with two.

The team travels to Melbourne for a two match series against the Dandenong Rangers.
