World Championship Bronze for WA Sailing Duo

WAIS sailing duo Colin Harrison and Russell Boaden were part of the successful Australian Sonar team that finished third at the 2014 IFDS Sailing World Championships in Canada this week.

Not only did the result earn the WA pair – along with NSW’s Jonathan Harris – a world championship bronze medal, but it qualified Australia a boat in the Sonar Class, for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

Weather conditions in Halifax conspired to cancel racing on the final day of competition, ensuring the Australian crew would head home with bronze.

Boaden admitted the conditions had presented some challenges, but said they were happy with their result.

“We saw tricky racing conditions this week with a few ups and downs but it was nice to finish the regatta with a bronze medal and on the podium,” he said.

“It’s been a tough regatta so we are happy with the result.”
