A final lunch before the biggest show on earth is welcomed into the lounge room once more. The razzamatazz and artistry of the opening ceremony is not really my cup of tea, but it does signal that the wait is over and there is only one more sleep before the real stuff begins.
The anticipation has been building for weeks now and unlike Christmas which is over in a day, the Olympics will keep delivering highlights day after day for two weeks. It's probably just as well it is only for two weeks because there must be only so many hours you can spend in front of a television before you go crazy. There are so many highlights it is hard to pick some out. The hockey and swimming will be specials of mine in the first week, with the centrepiece of the Olympics, athletics getting my full attention in week two.
We are privileged in being able to work in sport and the performances of the WA athletes will always have a special feel about them. Having seen first hand what it takes for an athlete to reach this stage makes it that much more special to see them compete and succeed.
I'm looking forward to sharing the highs and lows of the big show with the staff and athletes who will be around WAIS for the next two weeks. Bring it on!
