Australian Beijing Olympic silver medallists Clayton and Lucinda Fredericks
have been named in the Australian Olympic Committee’s (AOC) equestrian eventing
team for London 2012.
The England-based husband and wife combination secured their
Olympic nomination as part of Australia’s five member eventing team that will
compete at the Greenwich Park course in London.
The Fredericks were part of the silver medal winning
eventing team at the 2008 Beijing Games, and the pair will be making their
second appearance at Olympic level for Australia.
For Clayton he is one of the few equestrian riders in the
world who has experienced first-hand the Greenwich course after competing in
the test event last year with the horse he was selected on, Bendigo.
"Having already ridden I’m focused on keeping good control of my horse and
ensuring he can turn and manoeuvre quickly and that he has good fitness as
there are some big hills to get up on this course,” he said.
Lucinda made a late bid for Olympic selection after
finishing second recently in the 4 star Luhmuhlen event in Germany upon the
aptly named, Flying Finish.
"It's amazing to have a second chance to go to the Olympics
with Clayton and we hope to go one better and bring the gold home,” she said.
Clayton and Lucinda Fredericks’ selection has taken WA’s
numbers for the London Games to 44 athletes.
