WAIS athlete and West Coast Fever star Andrea Gilmore has been invited to join the AIS netball squad for the ANZ Waipa pre-season competition in New Zealand.
Gilmore (19) will train with the squad in preparation for the 2008 ANZ Championships were she is expected to feature for the Fever, a new franchise in the Trans-Tasman competition.
Andrea has progressing through WAIS development programs in recent years and is now starting to make serious in-roads, a fact that WAIS Netball Development Coach Michelle Wilkins attributes to Gilmore's professional attitude.
"Andrea is a new breed of athlete, she is a high achiever both on and off the court, and she always gives 100 percent effort," said Wilkins.
Gilmore's versatility is another factor that sets her apart from her peers. She has experience playing both Goal Keeper and Goal Defence, but has more recently been developing her game into Wing Defence to exploit her exciting speed and skill.
"She is an outstanding athlete who is elusive, very attacking and plays her netball aggressively," said Wilkins.
Gilmore played her junior netball at the Hamersley Netball Club and also represented the West Coast Falcons and Perth Oriels. She also finds time in between her busy training schedule to study Landscape Design.
The AIS travels to Auckland for a match against the Northern Mystics on 13 March before competing in the pre-season tournament in Hamilton with matches against Waikato Magic, NSW Swifts, Central Pulse and an academy side between 14-16 March.
