Four WA Swimmers to Contest Finals on Night Two of the #AusTrials2018

Four Western Australian swimmers will contest finals on the second evening of the 2018 Australian Swimming Trials on the Gold Coast.

Women’s 50m Fly Final

 

Holly Barratt was the fourth fastest Australian qualifier (fifth fastest time overall) for tonight’s final after she set a time of 26.89 in her heat this morning. Cate Campbell broke the Australian record in qualifying fastest in 25.47.

 

Barratt finished fifth in the final of the women’s 100m backstroke on night one.

 

Men’s 100m Breast Final

 

Tommy Sucipto has set the sixth fastest qualifying time for tonight’s 100m breaststroke final. Sucipto finished in 1:01.35 with Jake Packard (59.57) the only man to break the minute in qualifying.

 

George Harley who picked up a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke final last night, narrowly missed the final with the 10thquickest time of 1:01.58. Alex Milligan was 11th in 1:01.81.

 

Women’s 100m Free Final

 

After winning a bronze medal on night one in the women’s 200m fly final, Brianna Throssell is back in action on night two, where she will contest the 100m free showpiece. Throssell set the sixth fastest time in qualifying of 54.80.

 

The Campbell sisters were fastest qualifiers, with Cate clocking 53.22 ahead of younger sibling Bronte’s 53.98.

 

A top six position in the final would place Throssell in the selection frame for the 4x100m relay squad at the Commonwealth Games.

 

Men’s 100m Free Final

 

Zac Incerti clocked 49.00 to win his heat and set the sixth fastest qualifying time overall in the men’s 100m freestyle.

 

In a hotly contested field, Cam McEvoy recorded the top time of 48.64, with Clyde Lewis .2 of a second behind. Olympic champion Kyle Chalmers (equal seventh in 49.17) and reigning Commonwealth Champion James Magnussen (third in 48.90) are also in the final.

 

A top six position in the final would place Incerti in the selection frame for the 4x100m relay squad at the Commonwealth Games.
