The WAIS Baseball Program is a squad-based program and centres on the development, and preparation for international competition, of identified talented players whom it is believed can progress to the national representative level.
Squad Structure This squad of athletes covers those currently in national squads and those who have been identified by the WAIS coaching staff and the national or state selectors as having the potential to reach this level.
The number of athletes in the program at any one time varies between 15 and 30 athletes. These athletes progress to the nationally run Major League Baseball and Australian Academy Program which is an eight week program held every year on the Gold Coast.
Those who are capable progress to a professional / college signing in America and then to selection in the Australian National team.
The WAIS Baseball Program co-exists with the State Programs. The WAIS Head Coach assists with the development of coaches within the whole structure and with the implementation of an organised and professional training regimen.
Staff The program is currently staffed by one full-time Head Coach and six part-time assistant coaches including a specialist sprint coach.
