SOURCES OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR WAIS ATHLETES 2012
1. Direct
Athlete Funding Support
Direct
Athlete Support (DAS) is available to targeted World Class and International
Athletes in high priority sports, to assist them to focus on training in
preparation for representing Australia. Eligible applicants submitted to ASC by NSOs
each 6 month period (nominated in September/Oct and March/April). Funding
amounts based on medal potential at benchmark competitions.

Funding
Athletes

considered for AOC direct funding the following year. Funding ranges from $10000
to $20000 per allocation.

8. University
Sports Scholarships
Several
WA universities offer Sports Scholarships to support students to combine their
studies with a sporting career (details below).
In
addition, all four WA universities offer a growing number of other scholarships
to assist students financially. Some scholarships are for academic excellence,
others for community commitment, and others for students with educational or
financial disadvantages. Some are course specific, some are campus specific,
some assist with accommodation costs, some assist with fees or books. They are
many and varied, and you would be well advised to investigate what may be
available. See university websites for full details.

Assistance
Youth Allowance can provide financial assistance to individuals in
need, aged 16-24, who are engaged in full-time study (or at least 75% full time

Austudy can provide financial assistance to individuals in need, who are over
25 and studying full-time (or at least 75% full-time study load) or undertaking
an approved apprenticeship. If you
