Bolt Gives Kennedy the Call Up

With Nitro Athletics Melbourne set to begin in two days, young Western Australian pole-vaulter Nina Kennedy will be looking to impress as she competes as part of the Bolt All-Stars team.

Kennedy was given the call up late last month where she expressed that her selection was accompanied by a range of emotions.

Being a young athlete Nina Kennedy has always admired Bolt and his success within the sport of athletics.

She said “he’s the best athlete this sport has ever seen, and looking up to him from such a young age makes competing in the same team as him an unthinkable experience really.”

At the Nitro Athletics event Kennedy will compete against athletes from Australia, England, New Zealand, China and Japan, including fellow Western Australian  pole vaulter, Liz Parnov, who will compete as part of Team Australia.

Also set to compete for Team Australia is Western Australian Paralympic sprinter, Ella Pardy.

Kennedy was one of four Australians selected in the Bolt All-Stars, Usain Bolt saying “I’m happy to have four young Australians… it’s going to be tough for them when we hand Team Australia some trouble, but they are on my team now.”

The remainder of Bolt’s team is made up of a number of Olympic and World Champions from across the globe, including fellow Jamaican sprinters Asafa Powell and Michael Frater.

Nitro Athletics Melbourne will take place across the 4th, 9th and 11th of February where all events will be broadcast live on Channel 7 and 7mate.

Nina Kennedy is scheduled to compete at Melbourne’s Lakeside Stadium on Thursday the 9th of February.
