Australia’s Paralympic class sailors have won bronze in the Sonar at the 2013 IFDS World Championships in Kinsale, Ireland.

WAIS athlete Colin Harrison, Jonathan Harris and Russell Boaden won bronze at their first Sonar regatta together after a challenging final day of racing.

The Australian trio began Friday’s racing with a 10th, before finishing second in race two and sixth in race three to end the regatta tied on points for third with their German opponents, with Harrison and crew winning bronze on a count back.

“It was a very challenging day with a 10th, a second and a fifth to finish the regatta third,” said Harrison. “We ended up on equal points with the Germans but clinched the bronze medal on a count back.

“It was a very satisfying result for the three of us in our first regatta together,” he said.

In other sailing news, Australian sailor and WAIS scholarship holder Matt Wearn has made a strong start to the 2013 Laser European Championship in Dublin, Ireland in blustery conditions to sit 17th overall after day one.All four Australians in the Laser European Championships are currently in the top 20 in the 123 boat fleet.
