Commonwealth Youth Games Update

WAIS athletes have produced some impressive results in the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India.

The brightest results belonged to young sprinter Jared Bezuidenhout (Warnbro) who claimed a bronze medal in the 110m hurdles in a personal best time and a silver medal as part of the Australian 4 x 100m relay team.

Ray Williams (Lockridge) showed plenty of future potential by qualifying for the men’s 100m sprint, finishing sixth. Fellow Western Australian athlete Mitchell Zilm was unlucky not to join him in the final, after finishing fourth in his semi-final.

Western Australia will be proudly represented by 7 athletes out of the 31 chosen to represent Australia at the III Commonwealth Youth Games. The athletes are as follows: Brianna Beahan (Connolly), Ellen Pearce (Doubleview), Jared Bezuidenhout (Warnbro), Tom Brennan (Bullcreek),Matthew Cowie (Morley), Ray Williams (Lockridge)and Mitchell Zilm. 1300 athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations are expected to take part.
