WAIS 400m runner Ben Offereins has safely progressed through to the semi-final stage of the 400m in Delhi, finishing a comfortable second in his heat on Thursday afternoon.

Needing only to finish in the top three in the second of six heats, the national champion posted a time of 46.85sec to finish behind Ramon Miller of the Bahamas.

Offereins ran to his trademark race plan, going out with a hard first 200m through the back of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium track before pushing through in the final half of the race.

He clearly eased off in the final 100m to conserve himself for the latter rounds after looking around to confirm he was safely placed within the top three.

Offereins will next be in action in the semi-finals on Friday afternoon.
