Delhi2010 – Bridger Progresses to Next Round

Deonne BridgerWAIS archery athlete Deonne Bridger has progressed to the next round of the women’s recurve after shooting a 637 in qualifying.

Bridger – who is the reigning national champion and a two-time Olympian – earned fourth place out of a field of 22 athletes on the first day of competition to confirm her credentials as a medal prospect for Australia.

Returning a competitive total of 637, Bridger was bettered only by home-grown heroes Deepika Kumari (662) and Dola Banerjee (658) and England’s Naomi Folkard (642).

Fellow Western Australian archer Taylor Worth was also in action today in the men’s recurve competition. Worth finished 14th out of 38 competitors after securing a total of 646.

Worth was one of three Australians competing in the men’s draw, with Mathew Masonwells (ninth) and Matthew Gray (12th) behind top qualifier Rahul Benerjee of India, who shot 679.
