Five West Australian sailors will race for world championship honours at the 2019 Hyundai 49er, 49erFX and Nacra World Championships in Auckland.

With the championships forming part of the Olympic selection process the competition will be as strong as ever.

In ther 49er David and Lachy Gilmour will line up in the hoping to repeat the success they had at the World Cup in Genoa earlier this year.

It could be a battle of the brothers among the Australian crews with David and Lachy going up against Will and Sam Phillips.

“Everyone has been pretty close in the last few months,” said David Gilmour.

The Gilmour’s have been in Auckland for nearly a month training in the 20-knot South Westerlies, though with lower winds expected that could be in their favour.

While in the 49erFX Caitlin Elks along with New South Wales’ Amelia Stabback will be chasing success following a 17th place finish at the Oceania Championships last month.

Also lining up in the 49erFX is 2008 470 Olympic Champion who joins Ella Clark.
