The Hockeyroos have defeated Wales 9-0 at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games to remain undefeated after two matches.

Having won their opening match 4-0 against Malaysia, the Australians proved far too strong for Wales, with Jodie Kenny and Georgie Parker both completing hattricks.

As they had against the Malaysians, Australia made a first start, scoring from a penalty corner inside the opening ten minutes before racing to a decisive five goal lead by the break.

With Madonna Blyth pulling the strings in midfield, and Kenny particularly dangerous from penalty corners, the Welsh side couldn’t find an answer for the Australian onslaught.

The Hockeyroos didn’t relent in the second half, scoring a further four goals to run up a 9-0 scoreline, that sees the Australians with a plus 14 goal difference from their opening two matches, ahead of their next match with hosts Scotland at 4pm Perth time on Sunday.

Georgia Nanscawen, Brooke Peris and Emily Smith also managed to score singles for Australia. Wales had a late penalty corner, but were denied through a desperate save from Rachel Lynch.

WAIS athlete Ashleigh Nelson made her first appearance for the campaign, having overcome a minor shin injured sustained in training in the lead up to the Malaysia match. Nelson was joined in action, by fellow WAIS scholarship holder Jayde Taylor.
