Jai Hindley named SportWest RAC Sports Star of the Year

WAIS cycling graduate Jai Hindley has been named SportWest RAC Sports Star of the Year following his historic Giro d’Italia performance.

Last October, Hindley wrote his name in to Western Australian and Australian history books with his ride at one of cyclings three Grand Tours.

Not only did he become the first Western Australian to stand on the final podium of a grand tour, he became just the third Australia, and the first to finish runner up at the Giro.

Hindley’s success was not just on the final podium, he claimed a stage win on stage 18, the second individual stage win by a rider from WA and worse the young rider and overall jerseys during the race.

He follows in the steps of former WAIS athletes and graduates including, Sam Kerr (2018 & 2017), Kim Mickle (2013), Cameron Meyer (2011 & 2012), Lauren Mitchell (2010), Steve Hooker (2008 & 2009), Paul Burgess (2006), Robin Bell (2005), Ryan Bayley (2004), Peter Dawson (2003), Dmitri Markov (2001) and Rechelle Hawkes (2000).
