Kennedy Withdraws from World Championships

WA elite pole vault athlete Nina Kennedy has withdrawn from the Australian Flame team to contest the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London due to injury.

Kennedy made the decision in consultation with her medical team after struggling to fully overcome a quad complaint in the weeks leading into the August 4-13 Championships.

The 20 year-old had earned automatic qualification for the Championships back in February – when she cleared 4.55m at the WA State titles in Mt Claremont.

Athletics Australia confirmed its 48-strong squad on Tuesday, with WA set to be represented in London by Olympic middle-distance runners Peter Bol (Melbourne based) and Sam McEntee (USA based).

The pair both competed at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, but will be making their world championship debut in London.
