Leaders Jersey for Meyer

Cameron Meyer has sensationally taken the leader’s jersey after winning stage four of the 2010 Santos Tour Down Under in South Australia, two days after suffering a heavy crash within a hundred meters of the finish line.

The WAIS-AIS athlete was part of a small break away that managed to stay clear of the peloton during the 124km fourth stage that took in the picturesque scenery between Norwood and Strathalbyn.

Meyer – who earlier this month won a second consecutive national road title – holds a three second advantage over fellow Australian Matt Goss heading into Saturday’s decisive stage at Willunga.

The reigning WAIS Athlete of the Year produced a spirited effort to take the line honours ahead of Belgian Thomas De Gendt and now ranks as the man to beat with just two stages remaining.

Meyer’s younger brother and fellow Garmin-Cervelo teammate Travis Meyer (WAIS-AIS) finished just over a minute behind whilst young gun and U23 national road championship winner Luke Durbridge (WAIS-AIS) crossed in 80th position, riding for Uni SA-Australia.
