Marschall Rubs Shoulders with Pole Vault’s Elite in Paris

Published On: 2 July 2018

Kurtis Marschall has taken sixth place amongst a world class men’s pole vault field at the Paris Diamond League on Saturday.

In a start list boasting the top three athletes from both the 2016 Rio Olympic and 2017 World Championship finals, Marschall was competing against the very best the sport has to offer.

And the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games men’s pole vault champion proved he was worthy of the company, jumping 5.70m to take sixth place in the 12-strong list.

Reigning world champion Sam Kendricks of the USA registered a world lead height of 5.96m for victory ahead of Sweden’s Armand Duplantis (5.90m) and French world record holder Renaud Lavillenie (5.84m).

Marschall entered competition at 5.45m clearing at the first attempt before taking two jumps at 5.60m.

He again sailed over at the first attempt at 5.70m, before bowing out with three misses at 5.77m which only five competitors managed.

The European adventure continues for Marschall, with Lausanne providing the next stop in the competition schedule.

The 21 year-old is joined on the tour by coach Alex Parnov and fellow Commonwealth Games medallist Nina Kennedy.
